Amazing and Heroic Multi-Screen Capture
I had Screenflow 4 and didn’t use it that much. But now I found I had a complicated project that involved capturing my iMac Retina 5K screen, as well as the Facetime camera, as well as the iPhone screen. Screenflow 5 does this on my machine with now problems at all. Mind you…it is capturing a 5K x 2K screen at what….30 frames per second, AND the Facetime camera, AND the live iPhone screen, AND the audio on the Facetime camera, AND the computer audio (with the separate driver).
Once you’ve capture all this media, you can arrange it however you want, and then you can export it at whatever resolution and data rate you want. It seems to me that taking the 5K screen and outputting to 1080 HD proceeds at maybe 2x real time. So 2 minutes of recorded content might take about a minute to render to H.264
So far, I haven’t had any problems. No bugs, no crashes. The program’s performance … for $99 and able install my stable of Mac’s…I’d say its a great deal.
Another nice thing….when I showed people what it could, their jaws dropped. And these aren’t people new to technology. If you have a iMac Retina 5K, you’ll get a special thrill when you run Screenflow 5.
By the way - you can run the iPhone camera and capture the iPhone screen… and thus the camera in sync with everything else. This means you can create a three camera shoot in one pass - Screen, Facetime, and iPhone. How cool is that?
